I am the Mountain
by Patrick Labaki
I am the mountain, I conquered both Earth and Sky,
Majestic, unbounded, where the winds sigh.
My enemies gather—host and horde, throng and legion,
Their tactics of violence, a relentless besieging.
But like Masada's stand 'gainst Roman tide,
My slopes withstand the march of time.
They ambush with cunning, deception their guide,
Offering gifts with betrayal inside.
Crows and jackdaws, spying relentlessly,
Urging my allies to turn against me.
When fear fails to sway, they try isolation,
A desperate attempt at my fortification.
Assaulted from all sides, still, they might ponder,
In their relentless siege, they pause and wonder:
Unveiling a cannon, an officer starts the count in,
Never once thinking, what can one do to harm a mountain?`;
